Character design is one aspect of this internship that I have experience with. As you saw in my last post, this is the vibe I am going for with my two characters:

This is what I subsequentially came up with:
When I design a character, I begin with the simple shapes, specifically body type. Calla, the fairy, has a classic hourglass body shape. Wren, the witch, has a skinnier more rectangular body type.

From body type, I move onto the hair and eyes. For Calla's hair, I took inspiration from the image to the left (on computer, above on phone). After hair and face, I design the characters outfits. Wren's out fit was inspired by the two images below.


At the end, I add random extra details, like Calla's vitiligo. My goal with all character design is for them not to be stereotypical, or perfectly fitting into beauty standards. Personally, I find unique designs like this to be far better than what society finds beautiful.
